More concretely, the Soviets appear to have purchased the tooling for the Cortebert 616 that was ordered by Rolex for use in the Panerai watches they assembled for the Italian navy. I bought a Molnija pocket watch during a visit to Russia in 2002 and recently rediscovered this treasure. I'm including photos for context. While the exterior showcases the expected mechanical elegance of a Molnija, the interior surprised me with an electronic circuit tailored to play the Russian anthem.Some Molnija movements were used in oversized men's wristwatches. Early Molnija pocket watch movements (from 1947 to c. 1960) normally had 15 jewels. Later ones (from around 1965 to 1997) normally had 18 jewels.
